Hawks Landing, Orlando: An excellent experience at a reasonable price.

By: Cody Hart

The 1803 team recently had the opportunity to play Hawk’s Landing, in Orlando Florida. Located at the Marriott Convention Center this Joe Lee/Robert Cupp Jr. course has an extremely fun layout built for the expert iron player.

Course Overview:

Originally designed by Joe Lee and opened in 1986, the course underwent a significant renovation by Robert Cupp Jr. in 1999, transforming the course into what we see today. Winding through 200 acres, the course features an abundance of water, island greens, and large forgiving greens.

Here's a quick rundown of the key features:

  • Length: 6,6325 yards
  • Par: 72
  • Rating: 70.2
  • Slope: 133
  • Course type: Resort

Our Experience:

Hawk's Landing impressed with its immaculate condition. From tee to green, the fairways and greens were meticulously manicured. While the practice facilities are limited to a driving range and a putting green, the course itself offers a well-designed challenge. Water hazards or sand come into play on most holes, demanding strategic thinking on approach shots. Despite the shorter course length, even long hitters will find water hazards, adding an element of strategy. In addition, the narrow fairways might force most golfers to leave the driver in the bag. The course offers a good balance – enjoyable for average golfers without being overly difficult. The greens rolled true but played a bit slower than expected. A well-stocked drink cart with a variety of beers, snacks, and mixed drinks kept golfers refreshed at reasonable prices. If you are in Orlando for a conference, this course is perfect for your business outing.

Play Considerations:

Greens fees at Hawk's Landing Golf Course vary depending on the day and time you play. While a round can be as affordable as $69, prices can reach up to $178. We highly recommend this course if you can find a tee time around $100. However, the best value at $150+ might be found elsewhere, as the amenities and overall experience fall short of the hefty price tag.

Overall:

Overall, Hawk's Landing Golf Course promises an enjoyable and challenging round in a beautiful setting. Whether you're a seasoned golfer or a beginner looking to improve your game, Hawk's Landing offers something for everyone.
